A Small Progress Report

Monday, May 16th, 2011

‘Cause  th’ Progress has  been on th’ Small side…

But there really is progress, on several fronts actually!  Not a lot new medically; but I’m still hard at it, tryin’  all kinds o’ stuff.  I’ve been able to make a fairly decent habit w/th’ CD’s.  Doin’ th, main one, the hour-long one, every Mon., and the rest, one a day for the rest of th’ week.  They really do help!  And I’m being better w/th’ exercise thing.  ‘Up to 200 strokes a day on that cursed bike.  Doin’ a lot more stretches, too.  Just whenever I’m up for some reason, I’ll stop and stretch, as far and as hard as I can.  We’ll see over more time how much good that does; but at the worst, it feels good!

On th’ hobby front, Sig will ship some of my order Mon.  Today.  They’ve had some supply chain hassles that’ve set ‘em back.  The guy I’ve been e-mailing w/, fella named Dave, was gonna do one more check to see if the 1/8″ stuff was ready to go, and if not he was gonna ship all the rest, and do the 1/8″ stuff in a separate shipment.  ‘Just my luck, t’ run afoul of  their problems.  But that’s not gonna bother me.  ‘Ain’t gonna let it!

And on the photographic front, I’ve got a few over th’ 100-mark scanned slides in their own file.  That’s 2.62Gb.  And there’s still 13 boxes o’ slides on th’ desk waiting!   In th’ Big Box on th’ floor, there’s  38 li’l boxes left.  And that’s th’ 1st of four of the big boxes.  3 more downstairs…  Can we all say, “Career!”, boys ‘n’ girls!  Oh well,as my ol’ Mom used to say, “It’ll keep you from hangin’ around drugstores.”

‘Scuse me jus’ a second; ‘got to go see what I’ve got to share t’day.

Another Work Week…

Monday, August 23rd, 2010

Sweetie left last night… late, as usual.  But she was quick to answer her mornin’ wake-up call, and from th’ little I could hear of her thru th’ static of a rotten connection, she sounded good.  And so ends another weekend.

I worked nearly all of it.  I’ve got somethin’ over 300 images on-loaded from discs.  I went back to the originals, the NEF’s (Nikon Electronic Files, the raw stuff straight outta the camera) and built FRESH files.  And th’ 300 is only a “scratch on th’ surface of what-all I’ve got.  I’m certain to weed out a bunch; but I’m not even halfway thru th’ stack o’ CD’s yet.  An’ THEN there’s a big stack o’ DVD’s, more recent work.  And when I get tired o’ messin’ w/all o’ that, there’s boxes an’ boxes of slides I can scan for Timepiece II.

I’ll prob’ly bounce around ‘tween the 2 a lot.  But I’m finding images I’d forgotten I had!  GOOD ones!  So there will be a bunch o’ never-before-seen stuff to go up when I get it all squared away.

I’m gonna do things a bit differently this time ’round.  Just for starters, I’m goin’ to make the “preview” images, th’ ones you see when you click on a thumbnail, bigger.  They’ve all been 750 pixels-long side.  I’m gonna go w/a thousand this time; ‘give everybody a GOOD look @ what I’ve found.  And I’ve learned (a shock, I know) that I need to sharpen everything before I up-load it.  I didn’t bother in th’ past, thinking that would discourage would-be thieves, if things weren’t pin-sharp they wouldn’t bother.  But on reflection, I think it may have discouraged would-be customers, too.

Of course, there’s no way I’ll really know unless I get somebody willing to use th’ E-Mail link and give me a bit o’ feedback.  THAT’s NEVER happened!  The ONLY “feedback” I EVER got was when Mr. Constantinou, who built the shopping cart for me, valued my work as highly as he did his own.  That was a real boost for my tired ol’ morale.

And speaking of Mr. C., I tried all over Fredericksburg to send him the print he earned.  Would you believe UPS and FedEx wanted over $70.oo to send one 16×24 print to Ontario!?  I was floored!  Sweetie’s gonna hit the USPS office and see if they can’t be “reasonable” about it all.  I’m “on pins & needles” waitin’ to hear that it’s gone…

Well, I s’pose I’d better get back t’ work; this stuff doesn’t get anywhere close to done any other way.

Cheers!
